BRETON BISCUITS

Brittany is justly famous for its biscuits, made in a number of small factories throughout the region. At many such establishments it is possible to watch through a large window the biscuits being made, or you may be able to take an organised tour.

The retail outlet shops next door sell a range of biscuits, loose or packeted, and also other Breton delicacies such as fruit cake, chocolate cake and various pastries. Sold in attractive and distinctive tins, these make ideal products to take home for those not fortunate enough to have visited Brittany themselves.

The distinctive flavour of the biscuits and cakes is due to the fact that they are made with the wonderful Breton salted butter - " au beurre fin de Bretagne".

The biscuits come in various shapes, such as the "palets", which seem to be designed to match the metal palet used in the popular Breton game of the same name. Our particular favourite is the "galette de Fouesnant", with a delicious crunchy texture, and wonderful with coffee and even ice-cream.
