The Papermill at
Muzillac |
| |
 |
 |
We found this to be a fascinating
experience. Set in a lovely wooded area by a lake, the old Paper
Mill at Domaine de Pen-Mur, near Muzillac, has been carefully restored,
and still makes hand-made paper using age-old techniques. |
| |
 |
|
Visitors are shown each step of the production
process, starting with soaking rags being turned into pulp, and
ending with the drying process, with sheets of paper hanging up
to dry in the lovely old loft.
After the short tour, you will find an irresistible
collection of hand-made papers and cards for sale at very reasonable
prices. A useful souvenir! |

The Secrets of
Silk - Le Musée de la Soie, Campel |
| |
 |
|
"Step into the museum and you'll be instantly
captivated", reads the brochure. A one-and-a-half hour guided
tour takes you through three different museum areas devoted to the
history of the silk road, live silkworms and contemporary creations
in silk. |
| |
 |
|
The museum takes us along the caravan routes of
the old Chinese silk trade. The fabulous history of silk starts with
the legend, reported by Confucius, of the Chinese princess Xi Ling
Shi, who is said to have discovered the silk worm nearly 5000 years
ago when drinking tea under a mulberry tree. |

Metal Sculptor
- Poète Ferrailleur, Lizio |
| |
 |
|
Yes, this man is a Poet in Metalwork! Robert
Coudray uses recycled materials to invent "moving aquatic
or musical sculptures, automata, quirky machines or astonishing
fountains".
There is also a new display on ecology - recycling water, and
harnessing the power of water, sun and wind. |
